Water | Our Water Responsibility
Delivering Sustainable, High-Quality Water
Forestar is a reliable partner with deep Texas roots and is committed to environmental stewardship.
Forestar is committed to stewardship of our real estate and natural resources and has a long-term commitment to Texas. We also have over 1 million acres of groundwater interests, and sizable landholdings within the state. Our commitment to environmental stewardship is reflected in everything we do:
- Forestar placed conservation easements on more than 1,000 acres along the Neches River. The river and associated hardwood bottomlands are Texas' largest contiguous and most pristine riverine habitat.
- Our Cibolo Canyons community in San Antonio was carefully designed to minimize water consumption (saving each home up to 60,000 gallons per year) to preserve and protect the water quality of the Edwards Aquifer.
- In San Antonio, we set aside a 750-acre bird habitat to protect an endangered species, and acquired another 1,200 acres as a bird sanctuary.
- We manage thousands of acres of forest in certified voluntary compliance with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, an internationally recognized standard for responsibly and sustainably managing timberlands.
The stewardship efforts on these lands have resulted in multiple awards from various organizations and environmental groups, including the Environmental Protection Agency (Environmental Excellence for Watershed Protection), Department of Interior (Conservation Service Award), Georgia Department of Natural Resources (Partnership for Wildlife), and the Nature Conservancy (Conservation Leadership).
